It has been said that “Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing.” That idea stuck with us. So one day, in search of something more than the routine, a civil engineer and a risk manager made a bold decision—we dared each other to step outside the predictable and take on the journey of a lifetime.
That journey is America’s Great Loop.
For those unfamiliar, the Great Loop is a continuous waterway that circles the eastern United States, weaving through rivers, lakes, canals, and coastal passages. It’s equal parts challenge, discovery, and freedom. For us, it represents something even more personal: an opportunity to deepen our partnership, test our limits, and embrace a shared adventure that will shape the next chapter of our lives.
We’re Larry and Lisa Mitchell, and in the spring of 2027, we’ll depart from Southport, North Carolina aboard our Mainship 390, LiveMore. Over the course of roughly a year, we’ll navigate thousands of miles together—through changing seasons, unfamiliar waters, and countless new experiences.
This journey isn’t just about the destination; it’s about everything in between. The quiet mornings at anchor, the small towns we’ve never heard of, the people we’ll meet along the way, and the lessons we’ll learn as we go. It’s about trading schedules for sunsets, and certainty for curiosity.
We created this space to share that experience with you—our friends, family, and anyone else who feels drawn to the idea of adventure. Through our blog and social channels, we’ll document the planning, the challenges, the highlights, and the everyday moments that make a journey like this unforgettable.
Whether you’re here to follow along from afar, gather inspiration for your own adventure, or just see where the water takes us next, we’re glad you’re here.
